SAN FRANCISCO—Current Android owners are most likely very much aware of wearables, but only a small fraction of the billion active users and counting are actually regularly using  them, based on a new survey from Nielsen.

According to the global measurement firm, approximately 3. 5 million “average Android users” had an Android-powered wearable Bluetooth device as of February 2014.

Furthermore, these users are said to be able to only actually check and utilize their wearables approximately 14 times a month — an ridiculously low rate when comparing that to the reported average for smartphone users checking their devices 125 per day, according to Google leadership this kind of week.

There are a few means of looking at this. On the actual positive side, the user count figure is five times more than what it was a few months prior in September 2013.

Generally, Google and friends have their work cut out for the kids in pushing wearables out the door into the hands (and on to the wrists) of far more consumers.

The Internet giant has since made a large to-do at I/O 2014 this particular week in presenting how it plans to utilize Android to connect every one of the dots between devices from your home to the car to virtually everywhere we all go.

That last item will probably be served by smartphones, tablets, and the buzzworthy system category du jour, wearable technological know-how.

To beef up wearables (and get more onto the market with the established mobile OEM ecosystem), Yahoo and google unveiled Android Wear, a Google Now cards-heavy interface populating these devices with bite-sized but vital items of data, such as flight times, shipment notifications, and also directions.

Google is simultaneously inclined on and promoting a couple smartwatches from LG and Samsung that can help spearhead the market, which in turn, despite a great cope of attention for months at a time now, has yet to really lose beyond wearables focused on physical fitness.
